Overview

Auger Hollingsworth Accident & Injury Lawyers is an Ontario personal injury law firm serving clients in Ottawa, the Greater Toronto Area and communities across the province. Founded in Ottawa in 2004, the firm has expanded its presence to include offices in Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Barrie and Hamilton. The firm represents people and families affected by serious accidents, injuries and denied disability claims.

Richard Auger founded the firm after beginning his legal career in criminal defence. He started with one client file and worked from shared office space with another law firm. Several months later, his wife, Brenda Hollingsworth, joined the practice as an equal partner. Brenda brought extensive experience in litigation and personal injury law.

The firm grew through the founders’ commitment to their clients, strong legal advocacy and word-of-mouth referrals. Early recognition included a bronze award in the Ottawa Business Journal’s New Business of the Year category in 2006.

Since then, Auger Hollingsworth has continued to expand while maintaining the personal approach that shaped the firm in its earliest years.

Meet the Founders

Auger Hollingsworth Professional Corporation was founded by Richard Auger and Brenda Hollingsworth. They are law partners and husband and wife.

Richard and Brenda have built their practices around advocacy, client service and legal education. Their work has included representing injured people, families and individuals facing difficult legal disputes.

Both founders have written legal resources for the public and contributed articles to legal publications. They have also been invited to comment on legal issues in the media and share their knowledge through teaching and professional education.

Their experience, combined with the work of the firm’s broader legal team, supports Auger Hollingsworth’s ability to serve clients across Ontario.

Professional Recognition

Richard Auger, Brenda Hollingsworth and the firm have received recognition for their legal work, professional contributions and community involvement.

The firm’s growth from a small Ottawa practice into an Ontario personal injury law firm reflects its continued commitment to advocacy and client service.

Professional awards and distinctions can help demonstrate a lawyer’s standing within the legal and business communities. However, every case is different, and past results do not guarantee a particular outcome.

Commitment to Clients

Personal injury and disability claims can involve complex legal, medical and insurance issues. Clients may be dealing with pain, financial pressure, uncertainty and major changes to their daily lives.

Auger Hollingsworth aims to provide clear and compassionate legal guidance throughout the claims process. The legal team can investigate the circumstances of an accident, collect evidence, communicate with insurers, assess damages and pursue compensation when appropriate.

The firm’s approach is based on careful preparation, direct communication and an understanding of the challenges injured people and their families may face.

Community Involvement and Pro Bono Work

Community service has been an important part of Auger Hollingsworth since the firm opened in 2004. Its involvement has focused on charitable giving, pro bono legal work and public legal education.

In one significant pro bono matter, the firm represented approximately 150 families whose relatives with developmental disabilities were living at the Rideau Regional Centre. After the Ontario government announced plans to close the centre, Brenda Hollingsworth sought an injunction so families could be heard before placement decisions were finalized.

The legal process gave residents and their families an opportunity to participate in decisions about where their loved ones would live in the community. The firm later continued to provide free legal guidance to some affected families.

Richard Auger and Brenda Hollingsworth have also volunteered with the Child Advocacy Project. The program assists children from low-income families who require legal support for education-related matters. Their work included helping children with learning disabilities or autism and their families address concerns involving accommodation and discrimination in the public education system.

Richard also served on the Legal Pursuit Team for the Ottawa Hospital Foundation’s Legacy Campaign. The campaign raised funds for hospital facilities, equipment, research and education.

Charitable Support

Auger Hollingsworth has supported charitable and community initiatives connected to health, education, access to justice and injury prevention.

Organizations and initiatives supported by the firm have included:

  • The Ottawa Hospital

  • The Multiple Sclerosis Society

  • The Canadian Cancer Society

  • The United Way

  • The Ottawa Food Bank

  • Christie Lake Kids

  • Helmets on Kids

  • Organizations supporting people affected by spinal cord and brain injuries

The firm has also participated in fundraising activities within the legal community.

Contributions to Legal Education

Richard Auger and Brenda Hollingsworth have both contributed to legal education and professional development.

Richard has lectured in criminal trial advocacy at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law. He also served as a volunteer coach and mentor for the university’s Arnup Cup advocacy team. Under his mentorship, the team won the Arnup Cup in 2006 and placed third in the national Sopinka Cup competition.

Brenda has taught trial advocacy at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law. She has also spoken to law students and young lawyers at programs organized by the Ontario Bar Association and has taught advanced civil litigation to prospective law clerks at Algonquin College.

These contributions reflect the founders’ commitment to strengthening the legal profession and helping students and emerging legal professionals develop practical advocacy skills.

An Ontario Personal Injury Law Firm

Auger Hollingsworth began as a small Ottawa law practice and has grown into a personal injury firm serving clients throughout Ontario. Its history remains closely connected to Ottawa, while its legal services now extend across the Greater Toronto Area and other Ontario communities.

The firm continues to be guided by the principles that shaped its early growth: strong advocacy, personal attention, clear communication and a commitment to helping injured people and their families.
