Appellate Practice
Nixon Peabody took on a case others believed could not be won. They assumed incredible reputational risk by taking on the state's sitting governor, attorney general, insurance commissioner, and state legislature. They prevailed in two state Supreme Court decisions and then returned $85 million dollars to over 6000 health care providers in 45 states and seven countries around the world. They saw us three litigants and every one of the other affected individuals as people who deserved justice. They stood up to those who criticized us in the press and showed incredible courage in defending us. The case they won set a national precedent that protected the vested property rights of others in at least two other states and confirmed those rights in our own state. If one needs ones faith restored in our justice system, this is the firm with whom to work. Even if we had lost, I have never felt so supported, so valued, and so secure. The experience of working with them gave me the courage to hold my head high despite the false accusations made about those of us who fought for our rights.
