Overview
Zabel Schellenberg is a boutique Connecticut law firm advising municipalities, business owners, public officials, executives, and private clients in complex legal matters where experience, discretion, and sound judgment are essential. Our clients turn to us for sophisticated legal counsel, strategic advocacy, and practical solutions when the stakes are high and outcomes matter. Whether protecting personal or professional reputations, navigating significant business decisions, managing public-sector challenges, or mitigating long-term risk, our clients rely on us to deliver clear guidance and effective representation.
We recognize most legal matters are rarely routine and often involve substantial financial interests, governance responsibilities, regulatory concerns, and decisions with lasting consequences. Unlike larger firms where cases are often delegated, our clients benefit from direct partner involvement who understand exceptional representation requires more than technical legal knowledge. It demands strategic thinking, responsiveness, discretion, and a deep understanding of each client's objectives, risks, and opportunities.
Our partners are widely recognized for their professional excellence and leadership within Connecticut's legal community. They have earned distinction by Connecticut Super Lawyers®, Connecticut Rising Stars®, Best Lawyers in America®, and Best Law Firms® reflecting a commitment to providing the highest level of legal counsel and advocacy.

About Our Clients
At Zabel Schellenberg, our story is about more than decades of legal experience. It is about people, relationships, and a shared commitment to providing exceptional legal counsel with the personal attention every client deserves.
Our attorneys built their careers advising municipalities, public agencies, businesses, and individuals through complex legal challenges. Over the years, we have handled high-stakes litigation, appellate matters, employment and labor negotiations, land use issues, regulatory compliance, and a wide range of sophisticated legal concerns. Each member of our team brings deep experience in a distinct area of practice, allowing us to offer the breadth and depth of knowledge often associated with much larger firms.
But we believe great legal representation is about more than experience alone.
It is about knowing your clients. Understanding their goals. Being accessible when they need guidance. Taking the time to listen before offering advice. It is about building trusted relationships that last far beyond a single legal matter.
Those principles inspired the creation of Zabel Schellenberg.
During one of the most uncertain periods in recent history, as the COVID-19 pandemic reshaped the professional landscape, we saw an opportunity to build something different. We envisioned a law firm where clients would never feel like just another case file, where collaboration and trust would guide every interaction, and where experienced attorneys could provide sophisticated legal counsel without sacrificing personal service.
Founded on a shared vision and strengthened by years of working together through challenging cases and complex legal issues, Zabel Schellenberg was built on a culture of mutual respect, integrity, and excellence. Those values continue to define who we are today.
We approach every client relationship with the understanding that no two legal challenges are exactly alike. Some situations require strong courtroom advocacy. Others call for thoughtful negotiation, creative problem-solving, and the ability to bring diverse interests together. Our role is not simply to provide legal answers—it is to help clients navigate difficult decisions and achieve practical, lasting results.
Municipal law remains a cornerstone of our practice. We proudly advise municipalities on governance, labor and employment matters, land use issues, regulatory compliance, and complex disputes. Through decades of experience, we have developed a deep understanding of the legal, political, and operational realities public entities face every day.
At the same time, our experience extends well beyond municipal representation. We regularly counsel businesses, organizations, and individuals on sophisticated litigation, appeals, negotiations, and strategic advisory matters. Clients come to us not only for legal expertise, but for sound judgment informed by years of real-world experience.
As we continue to grow, our mission remains unchanged: to deliver exceptional legal service while maintaining the responsiveness, accessibility, and genuine care that set us apart. We are proud of what we have accomplished, but our greatest achievement has always been the lasting relationships we have built with our clients, colleagues, and communities.
The trust our clients place in us is the foundation of everything we do.
As we look to the future, we remain committed to the principles that brought us here—exceptional legal counsel, personal attention, open communication, and an unwavering dedication to our clients' success.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about our firm. We would be honored to learn about your goals, your challenges, and how we can help.
We look forward to being part of your story.
