Best Law Firms in the United States for Bet-the-Company Litigation
States
Byrd Davis Furman & Alden traces its roots to Tony Byrd, who founded our law firm with the goal of representing injured clients. Mr. Byrd believed that the clients’ best interests could be served by taking their cases before a jury of their peers where they could be fully compensated for the injuries sustained.
In the late 1950s and early 1960s when only a few national firms had the competency to handle product liability, aviation and complex medical litigation, our firm stood at the forefront of developing personal injury law. In the course of our history, our attorneys have successfully represented injured plaintiffs against almost every major manufacturer in the United States, foreign corporations and nearly all the major aircraft and helicopter manufacturers in the world. The firm has obtained recoveries for victims of government, local public entities, hospitals and drug manufacturers’ wrongdoing.
Beginning in the 1990s, Byrd Davis Furman & Alden expanded its practice into commercial litigation, representing clients in breach of contract actions in various contexts. We served as class counsel in oil royalty litigation against the eight largest unified petroleum producing companies and recovered over $19 million on behalf of our clients. Since then, we have continued to expand our practice into business disputes over breach of contract, fraud and misrepresentation, partnership and fiduciary liability, real estate disputes, and class actions.
Today Byrd Davis Furman & Alden carries on our founder’s goals. Throughout our history we have remained dedicated to serving our clients with honesty, integrity and excellence in legal services.
After more than half a century, we remain among the top trial firms in the United States. Our lawyers continue to be recognized as speakers, faculty members and leaders in professional organizations. Our skills continually develop, our technology is cutting edge, and our research and investigation skills are unmatched for successfully pursuing recoveries for our clients.
Conner & Winters was organized in 1933 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by John M. Winters, Jr. and Benjamin C. Conner. The young Firm was dealt a temporary setback when, on the day following formation of the partnership, President Franklin D. Roosevelt closed all banks in the nation by executive order, including the Firm's major client. The Firm persevered through this difficult period, and today the bank's successor continues to be a client.
GROWTH
The core activities of the young Firm were initially in banking, real estate, trusts, probate, estate planning, and the rapidly expanding field of oil and gas law. By the end of World War II, the Firm's practice had expanded into litigation; income, estate and gift taxation law; estate planning and corporate finance. During the 1990's, the Firm grew rapidly by acquiring a number of well-qualified attorneys from competing firms. Conner & Winters' Oklahoma City office was opened in 1994, and the Firm's Northwest Arkansas office was opened in Fayetteville in 1995. The Firm has since expanded to Santa Fe, New Mexico, Jackson, Wyoming, Houston and Dallas, Texas, and Washington DC. As a result of its growth, the Firm developed skills in labor and employment, employee benefits, commercial law, corporate and securities, propane, insurance and risk management, and several other areas.
Conner & Winters attributes its diversity of practice and its reputation as one of the region's leading firms to the individual and collective talent of our attorneys and staff. The Firm has been able to attract well-qualified graduates from Ivy League and other nationally prominent law schools as well as important regional and state law schools.
WORK STYLE
Conner & Winters practices the principle that client representation requires a thorough practical understanding of the client's situation - its business, market, products, personnel, strengths and weaknesses. The Firm's interest in its clients is not casual; it is intense. Hard work, independent thought, and practical solutions to problems describe the Firm's work style.

Monnat & Spurrier, Chartered exists to win each client’s case through relentless thought, action, courage and care. These are the words we live by...
Thought
It is midnight or 4:00 a.m. There, in the faint blue glow of the computer screen, is the Monnat & Spurrier lawyer quietly plying the disciplined study, long range strategizing and innovation that launches the action of all successful courtroom battles. Since its genesis, the firm has recognized the risk of the busy trial lawyer, scrambling from one courtroom to another without time for long range planning, investigation or research. By limiting the number of cases we accept and always employing at least one legal scholar who does nothing but legal research and writing, Monnat & Spurrier avoids the traps that can sidetrack the courtroom win.
Action
Monnat & Spurrier lawyers are trial lawyers who regularly try “bet your life” cases to juries throughout the state of Kansas. Monnat & Spurrier lawyers do not count on quick plea bargains or “snitch” deals. Monnat & Spurrier lawyers are more likely out in the alley with a private eye looking for evidence or in the courthouse litigating creative motions and trying cases to juries.
Courage
Monnat & Spurrier lawyers strive to emulate the courage of the Nation’s founding fathers. We do so by embracing the opportunity to provide every accused - from the man, woman or child next door to the unpopular person, company or cause - the right to jury trial guaranteed by the Constitution. We do so by confronting unjust practices, procedures and people with the latest innovations of the law, science and technology. We do so by fighting whomever we need to fight to achieve justice for our client.
Care
Monnat & Spurrier lawyers know that if we want the jury to care about our client, the lawyer and law firm must care about the client too. Thus, the client, the client’s family and everyone at Monnat & Spurrier will spend countless hours together learning to know and understand each other so that, together, we can help the jury understand us and why our client should win the case on trial. We know that we stand with other human beings during some of the darkest hours of their lives. We want to bring to that moment the humanity, understanding and enlightenment the client deserves.
Relentlessly, we live by these words: Thought, Action, Courage and Care.
